Sri Vilapa Kusumanjali
Śrī Vilāpa-kusumāñjali is one of the most important commentary projects in the SRS Books catalogue. It includes the most recent writings of Śivarāma Swami and is called Patrāṅkitā commentary: “Words Inscribed Upon a Petal”.
Whereas four volumes have been released, more are yet to come and keep readers in joyful anticipation. Once completed, the series is planned to span eight volumes.
The original text of Raghunātha Dāsa Gosvāmī consists of 104 beautifully composed verses. Therein the Gosvāmī shares his innermost realizations on his spiritual identity and intricately voices his longings to serve Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī in Goloka Vṛndāvana. Elaborating on these moving and thoroughly inspiring texts with lucid, exquisite and detailed comments, Śivarāma Swami offers deep reflection on advanced Gauḍīya theology in practice, inner spiritual aspiration, and spontaneous devotion.
Volume one of Śrī Vilāpa-kusumāñjali opens the doorway into the prayers. In his introduction, Śivarāma Swami guides readers on how to approach such texts—assessing qualification, cultivating the right mood, and understanding why eagerness must be supported by steady practice and guidance.
Volume two of Śrī Vilāpa-kusumāñjali enters the section known as “Morning Dressing,” the most detailed description of service in Raghunātha Dāsa Gosvāmī’s masterpiece. A short introduction re-orients readers to the question of eligibility and mood before the sequence of sevā begins.
Volume three of Śrī Vilāpa-kusumāñjali carries Raghunātha Dāsa Gosvāmī’s meditations further into the morning adornment of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, covering verses 32–44. Her ornaments and cosmetics are offered one by one—headpieces, jewels, pearls, musk, kajjala, and other delicate embellishments—until She is fully prepared for the day’s pastimes.
Volume four of Śrī Vilāpa-kusumāñjali explores the afternoon and evening Pastimes (verses 45–57). The sequence follows the gentle flow of daily devotional service: worship, preparation of offerings, assisting with meals, incense, tāmbūla, and ārati, and the peaceful close of the day. Throughout, the emphasis remains on attentive service, reverence, and remembrance.
These volumes are especially suited to serious readers who wish to deepen their understanding of Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava theology and practice.
The Kṛṣṇa in Vṛndāvana Series includes all published volumes (1-4) of Śrī Vilāpa-kusumāñjali.
